Male Hygiene and Social Mentor Programs

Group Programs for Autistic Males 10 Years Plus.

Germinator Club

10 - 14 years

Germinator_Web.png

At The Germinator Club, we believe that learning about germs and hygiene can be cool and fun! Our program is designed for boys aged 10-14 years, who may struggle with daily hygiene tasks due to deficits in executive functioning skills commonly seen in autistic individuals.

Through STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and creative arts activities, our Germinators learn about infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoans, and helminths, and how to ward off germs and infections through daily hygiene practices.

What to expect

Our weekly program is held on Mondays from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm at our Tallebudgera Valley Studio. We also offer an online program that includes interactive games and activities based on our face-to-face program.

At the start of the program, participants receive an A4 book consisting of resources that will be used during the program and that can be used at home to make day-to-day hygiene easier. During each session, they will be provided with all the resources and tools required to grow bacteria, bust germs, and carry out experiments.

Groups are kept small (no more than two groups of 10) to allow us to attend to the needs of each individual. Participants are welcome to bring a support person at no extra cost.

Throughout the program, we welcome discussion and feedback that is cohesive in assisting us in adjusting each session to help participants achieve their goals. The success of any program requires communication between all parties, including the allied health team involved with the participant.

Fees and charges

The Germinator Club is a weekly program invoiced at $137.50 per participant per week.

Fees and charges for The Germinator Club are covered by NDIS for those who are self-managed and plan managed. Invoices can be sent directly to the plan manager.

An NDIS assessment report can be supplied at the end of the program at an additional cost of $600.

Hygiene Hunters

Hygiene Hunters Mentor Program Website Art(1).png

The Hygiene Hunters Mentor Program is a weekly program aimed at helping individuals develop essential hygiene skills and improve their overall well-being.

Program Details

Each weekly session lasts for two hour and covers a range of topics related to daily body hygiene, skin care, hair care, nail care, foot care, dental care, bathroom hygiene, presentation, verbal and non-verbal communication, and initiating conversation.

The program is delivered in small groups of no more than 10 participants, allowing for individualised attention and guidance. Participants are also welcome to bring a support person at no extra cost.

At the beginning of the program, each participant receives an A4 book with resources to make day-to-day self-care easier. They also receive personal care product samples used in guided self-care mentoring activities, which can be taken home for continued use.

Each weekly session is theme-based and incorporates African drumming therapy and creative mindfulness activities. African drumming is kept to a low and calming volume to meet differing sensory needs and is a combination of discussion and drumming. Creative activities are sensory-friendly and aimed at creating calm and mindfulness. This is a chance for connection in a calming social setting.

Throughout the program, feedback and discussion are welcome to help adjust each session to better meet the needs of the participants.

Fees and Charges

Hygiene Hunters Mentor Program fees and charges are covered by NDIS for those who are self-managed or plan-managed. Invoices can be sent directly to the plan manager.

The total cost of the program is $150 per participant per session, with fees invoiced on a weekly basis.

A NDIS assessment report can be supplied at the end of the program for an additional $600 per assessment.

The Hygiene Hunters Mentor Program runs on a weekly basis at the Tallebudgera Valley Studio every Thursday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.

Online Program

For those unable to attend in person, an adjusted program is available online. The online program includes games and activities based on the face-to-face program, but does not include African drumming.
