Blue Baboon Reform Alliance
Because difference should never be a defence.
The name Blue Baboon Reform Alliance symbolises intelligence, resilience, and community — values at the heart of our mission. The baboon represents cooperation, adaptability, and protection of the group, reflecting our commitment to supporting neurodivergent individuals within complex justice and education systems. The colour blue embodies calm, trust, and justice — guiding principles in our work to create inclusive, equitable pathways for change. At our core lies a powerful belief: difference should never be a defence. Instead, difference should be recognised, understood, and supported. Together, these symbols express our vision — to reform systems through understanding and collaboration, ensuring that neurodivergent individuals are not marginalised by misunderstanding, but empowered through education, advocacy, and opportunity.
A world where understanding replaces judgment, and where empathy guides every system — from the moment of first contact to the courtroom — so every autistic person can thrive with dignity and purpose.
Our Vision
Our Mission
We exist to ensure that neurodivergent people are treated with dignity, fairness, and compassion — not defined by misunderstanding or punished for difference.
Through education, research, and community partnerships, we aim to reform the policies and practices that contribute to the overrepresentation of neurodivergent youth in the justice system.
Our mission extends beyond advocacy: we actively work to educate and equip those on the front line of justice and care — including police, judges, lawyers, educators, and first responders — with the knowledge, empathy, and practical tools needed to respond appropriately to autistic individuals.
By building understanding across every level of engagement, we seek to transform systems of response from reactive to restorative, ensuring that support, not punishment, becomes the default path.
Who we are.
Blue Baboon Reform Alliance was founded by Jennifer Althaus, a sociologist, academic researcher, author, and parent of two autistic individuals. With both lived experience and professional expertise, Jennifer has spent many years working directly with autistic and neurodivergent youth through her business, Orange Elephants Creative Minds. Her hands-on experience supporting young people and their families has given her deep insight into the challenges faced at the intersection of neurodiversity, education, and justice.
Drawing on her research and frontline experience, Jennifer founded Blue Baboon Reform Alliance to create systemic change where it is most needed. The organisation brings together educators, advocates, and community partners to build understanding and reform practices that too often disadvantage autistic youth. Through education, co-designed programs, and evidence-informed advocacy, we aim to ensure that neurodivergent young people are recognised for their strengths, treated with fairness and dignity, and empowered to thrive both within their communities and beyond the justice system.
Founder's Vision Statement

As a sociologist, researcher, and parent of two autistic individuals, I have witnessed both the brilliance and the barriers experienced by neurodivergent youth.
Through my work with Orange Elephants Creative Minds, I have seen the power of understanding, creativity, and connection transform lives. Yet, I have also seen how systemic misunderstanding too often leads to exclusion, trauma, and unnecessary involvement with the justice system.
I founded Blue Baboon Reform Alliance to challenge that cycle — to build bridges between education, community, and justice — and to create a future where difference is respected, inclusion is the norm, and every young person has the opportunity to thrive free from stigma or discrimination.
I hope you will join me in making change for individuals who way too often get lost in a system.
